7 beautiful European villages you should visit

Travel like food, drinks, fashion and almost any other thing is very personal. There is no right or wrong when it comes to it: you can like, love or hate Paris for instance and nobody can judge you for it. Why is that so? Because travel my friends is all about you , it is an internal journey and not a destination. It is about how that particular place, big or small, famous or unknown, far or nearby has moved you or kept you indifferent, brought you joy or tears, knowledge or ignorance, growth or failure.

Having said that, when it is comes to travelling through Europe, Erwin and I for instance prefer to go to under the radar destinations, small villages, and to the big cities when it is off season. We find that the real charm of Europe lies actually in the small authentic villages rather than the big crowded cities.

To demonstrate that we have chosen 7 enchanting European villages . The good news is that you can visit them alongside the bigger cities nearby.  We hope you enjoy them.

1-Annecy/France

Annecy is a beautiful medieval town one hour ride away from Geneva. It is not the first time we mention it here on the blog: it is magical!

2-Ronda/Spain

« Ronda is the place where to go, if you are planning to travel to Spain for a honeymoon….The whole city and its surrounding are a romantic set » Ernest Hemingway

We’ll leave you to what Ernest Hemingway said about Ronda.

But we’ll add that it is an hour away from Marbella , an hour and a half from Malaga and Sevilla.

3-Cividale del Friuli/Italy

Discovering this Medieval Italian Gem known as Cividale del Friuli. It was founded by Julius Caesar in 53 BC and was the ancient Longobard capital (talk about history )
It is situated in the foothills of the eastern Alps, 15 kilometers by train from the city of Udine and very close to the Slovenian border . It is 1 hour 40 minutes away car ride away from Venice.
Besides its stunning, well preserved, authentic and Medieval center, the most beautiful part of Cividale was how quiet it was: Erwin and I had the whole town for ourselves.

I love beautiful stories; I love myths, #legends, #fairytales and unrealistic scenarios. The story behind the construction of this "Devil's bridge😈" is definitely a favorite: legend says that this bridge was built by the Devil himself. He wanted in exchange, the soul of the first who crosses the bridge. The locals managed to cheat him: they let a 🐱 cross the bridge. The Devil accepted his soul 🐱 as a sufficient sacrifice and therefore kept this outstanding bridge intact and still standing🌉 . . . . . . . . . #italy #cividale #cividaledelfriuli #beautiful #beautifulvillage #beautifuldestinations #travel #travelblogger #jesseinwonderland #travelcouple #travelgram #travelphotography #beautifulviews #bridges #bridgestone #river #wanderer #wanderlust #traveler #travelerstories#europe2017 #europeandestinations

4- Fagerholm Ingarö/ Sweden

Fagerholm Ingaro is a beautiful village 30 minutes away from Stockholm. Erwin’s client has a house there and we explored the area with him. It was remote, simple, authentic, non touristy…everything we like while travelling!

Welcome back our beloved Spring🦋🧚‍♀️💖🐥🌹🌷💐🌺🌸 #throwback #tbt ———————————— “I believe in process. I believe in four seasons. I believe that winter’s tough, but spring’s coming. I believe that there’s a growing season. And I think that you realize that in life, you grow. 5-Giethoorn/ Netherlands

They call it the ¨Dutch Venice” but we don’t really like comparisons. What they have in common in their uniqueness and canals. It’s nickname may give a false impression of size and crowds and commercialism. It is too quiet, too serene and remote. The loudest sound you can normally hear is the quacking of a duck or the noise made by other birds.

This little village is so dependent on its waterways, many of the houses cannot be reached by road. When the postman delivers the mail he travels by punt.

The best way to explore Giethoorn and the myriad of canals is obviously by joining a canal cruise. That’s what we did. It was the perfect birthday trip!

Giethoorn is an hour and a half ride away from Amsterdam. We highly recommend it.

Giethoorn is picture perfect isn’t she?? 🎈🛶🚤👫

6-Obidos/Portugal

Obidos is a beautiful medieval beautiful village just an hour away from Lisbon. It is one of the most feminine little towns. It was first given to Queen Isabel by King D. Dinis in the 13th century as a wedding present. During 600 years, Obidos belonged to the queens, to the House of the Queens. With its narrow, labyrinthine streets, ancient white houses, painted blue, red and yellow,  the town is famous for its balconies decorated with flowers; it has even already won several flower competitions!

7-Lake District

¨ The Lake District is a hauntingly beautiful corner of our planet and easily the most scenic place in England. The landscape is simply spellbinding: shadowy ridges gilded with golden light, shimmering meadows ablaze with wild flowers, and sparkling blue lakes that reflect the whole glorious scene.¨ Lonely Planet

This beautiful place is a 3 hours train ride from London and an hour and a half drive from Manchester.
