If only we knew how blessed we are to be born in the era of globalisation where borders are becoming thinner, information accessible, distances closer, communication easier and travel cheaper.
Every invention nowadays is intended to make life easier for us: we have apps which indicate what the weather is like, what time it will rain and what time it will stop, apps which tell us which roads to take, how busy the roads and now even how busy the stores are (thank you Google), apps which allow to instantly talk, write and see our family and friends no matter how far they are, apps which help us book the cheapest tickets and get the best hotel/motel deals, where to go, where to eat, what to do, etc etc etc….
Despite the amount of knowledge that is accessible nowadays to the ordinary traveller and the countless airlines, flights and travel deals, you cannot take the person out of any experience: travel is still a very personal journey and means different things to different people. There is no wrong and right when it comes to what you like best or less when encountering a new land, culture, food, landscapes, cities…
The only wrong doing for me is the excuses you make not to travel and go outside your comfort zone. Ask the average person and he would tell you how fascinating it is to discover new horizons, ask the enlightened and the wise and this is what they tell you about travelling:
It is better to travel well than to arrive
But a Samaritan, who was on a journey, came upon him; and when he saw him, he felt compassion
***This quote might not be directly linked to travel, but it still is: the Samaritan was in a journey (he was travelling) and he felt compassion for someone in need and helped him. Truth to be told, that’s what travel does; it makes you more compassionate….I know it did for me!***
Don’t tell me how educated you are, tell me how much you have travelled.
Travel brings power and love back into your life.
A traveler am I, and a navigator, and every day I discover a new region within my soul.
Men go abroad to wonder at the heights of mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motions of the stars, and they pass by themselves without wondering.
Adventure is worthwhile.
Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before
Wherever you go, go with all your heart
10- Lao Tzu
A good traveller has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving.
I have found out that there ain’t no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them.
12- Elizabeth Gilbert
Traveling is the great true love of my life… I am loyal and constant in my love of travel. I feel about travel the way a happy new mother feels about her impossible, colicky, restless newborn baby – I just don’t care what it puts me through. Because I adore it. Because it’s mine. Because it looks exactly like me.
Never hesitate to go far away, beyond all seas, all frontiers, all countries, all beliefs
Travel opens your mind as few other things do. It is its own form of hypnotism, and I am forever under its spell
15- Carew Papritz
I travel to be replenished with beauty, for travel makes the beauty of this world seem like a Christmas that never ends.
The only true voyage of discovery is not to go to new places, but to have other eyes.
The man who seeks to educate himself must first read and then travel in order to correct what he has learned.
18-William Least Heat Moon
When you’re traveling, you are what you are right there and then. People don’t have your past to hold against you. No yesterdays on the road.
I address you all tonight for who you truly are: wizards, mermaids, travelers, adventurers, and magicians. You are the true dreamers.
Wherever you go becomes a part of you somehow.
