Let’s forget about the elections for a while, and go somewhere most of us agree to go to: the movie world.
It wasn’t my parents who infected me with the love of travel; quite the opposite my dad hated travelling and often tried to teach us on how to be content with Lebanon because according to my deceased father: “who needs to go anywhere, when you live in the most beautiful country in the World”. He was partially right; yes my country is one of the most fascinating on Earth but this didn’t mean I didn’t need to go everywhere else too. ***Sorry Daddy***
What he transferred to me though was his passion for movies. It is through this love that I have been infected with this intense curiosity to travel the World. What my parents didn’t give me, these movies did: a fiery wanderlust that has not been amply satisfied.

6-The Last Emperor (1987)
Travel inspiration: China-Beijing forbidden city
“The Emperor has been a prisoner in his own palace since the day that he was crowned, and has remained a prisoner since he abdicated. But now he’s growing up, he may wonder why he’s the only person in China who may not walk out of his own front door. I think the Emperor is the loneliest boy on Earth.”
7-Empire of the Sun (1987)

I touched it! I touched it! I felt the heat! I can taste it in my mouth, oil and cordite!
8-Before Sunrise (Vienna-1995), After Sunrise (Paris-2004), Before Midnight (Greece-2013)
Travel inspiration: Vienna-Paris-Greece
I mean, just once, I’d love to see, some little old lady save up all her money, to go to the fortune teller, and she’d get there, all excited about hearing her future, and the woman would say, “Um-humm. Tomorrow, and all your remaining days will be exactly like today. A tedious collection of hours. And you will have no new passions, and no new thoughts and no new travels, and when you die, you’ll be completely forgotten.
9-Seven years in Tibet (1997)
Travel inspiration: Tibet
In this place where time stands still it seems like everything is moving. Including me. I can’t say I know where I’m going nor if my bad deeds can be purified. There are so many things I have done that I regret. But when I come to a full stop I hope you understand that the distance between us is not as great as it seems.
10- The Talented Mr Ripley (1999)
Travel inspiration: Venice
See Venice and die,” is what they say? Or is it Rome?
11-The Beach (2000)
Travel inspiration: Thailand
Trust me, it’s paradise. This is where the hungry come to feed. For mine is a generation that circles the globe and searches for something we haven’t tried before. So never refuse an invitation, never resist the unfamiliar, never fail to be polite and never outstay the welcome. Just keep your mind open and suck in the experience. And if it hurts, you know what? It’s probably worth it.
12-Emperor’s New Groove (2000)

14- Amelie (2001)
Travel inspiration: Paris
“Amelie has a strange feeling of absolute harmony. It’s a perfect moment. A soft light, a scent in the air, the quiet murmur of the city. A surge of love, an urge to help mankind overcomes her”.
15-L’auberge espagnole (2002)
Travel Inspiration: Barcelona
“When you first arrive in a new city, nothing makes sense. Everything is unknown, virgin… After you’ve lived here, walked these streets, you’ll know them inside out. You’ll know these people. Once you’ve lived here, crossed this street 10, 20, 1000 times… it’ll belong to you because you’ve lived there. That was about to happen to me, but I didn’t know it yet”.
16-Pirates of the Caribbean (2003)
Travel inspiration: The Caribbean (Jamaica- Haiti- Dominica -The Bahamas)- Singapore
“Not just the Spanish Main, love. The entire ocean. The entire world. Wherever we want to go, we’ll go. That’s what a ship is, you know. It’s not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that’s what a ship needs but what a ship is… what the Black Pearl really is… is freedom”.
17-A Good Year (2006)
Travel inspiration: Provence-France
In France it’s always the landowner who makes the wine, even though he does nothing more than supervise with binoculars from the comfort of his study. No, I enjoy making wine, because this sublime nectar is quite simply incapable of lying. Picked too early, picked too late, it matters not – the wine will always whisper into your mouth with complete, unabashed honesty every time you take a sip.
18-Into the wild( 2007)
Travel inspiration: Alaska
No, man. Alaska, Alaska. I’m gonna be all the way out there, all the way fucking out there. Just on my own. You know, no fucking watch, no map, no axe, no nothing. No nothing. Just be out there. Just be out there in it. You know, big mountains, rivers, sky, game. Just be out there in it, you know? In the wild.
Wayne Westerberg: In the wild.
Christopher McCandless: Just wild!
Wayne Westerberg: Yeah. What are you doing when we’re there? Now you’re in the wild, what are we doing?
Christopher McCandless: You’re just living, man. You’re just there, in that moment, in that special place and time. Maybe when I get back, I can write a book about my travels.
Wayne Westerberg: Yeah. Why not?
Christopher McCandless: You know, about getting out of this sick society. Society!
Wayne Westerberg: Society! Society!
Christopher McCandless: Society, man! You know, society! Cause, you know what I don’t understand? I don’t understand why people, why every fucking person is so bad to each other so fucking often. It doesn’t make sense to me. Judgment. Control. All that, the whole spectrum. Well, it just…
19-The Bucket list (2007)
Travel inspiration: Giza Egypt- Taj Mahal-Alpes (France)-California-Great Wall of China-Tanzania
The simplest thing is… I loved him. And I miss him. Carter and I saw the world together. Which is amazing… When you think that only three months ago, we were complete strangers! I hope that it doesn’t sound selfish of me but… the last months of his life were the best months of mine. He saved my life… And he knew it before I did.

“Adventure is out there!”
Travel inspiration: Hawaii (Hamakua Coast-Kaua’i Rain Forest-O’ahu)- New Zealand- California
“You need to wake up, Parker. The wealth of this world isn’t in the ground – it’s all around us. The Na’vi know that, and they’re fighting to defend it. If you wanna share this world with them, *you* need to understand *them*”
22-Eat Pray Love (2010)
Travel inspiration: Italy-India-Indonesia
“In the end, I’ve come to believe in something I call “The Physics of the Quest.” A force in nature governed by laws as real as the laws of gravity. The rule of Quest Physics goes something like this: If you’re brave enough to leave behind everything familiar and comforting, which can be anything from your house to bitter, old resentments, and set out on a truth-seeking journey, either externally or internally, and if you are truly willing to regard everything that happens to you on that journey as a clue and if you accept everyone you meet along the way as a teacher and if you are prepared, most of all, to face and forgive some very difficult realities about yourself, then the truth will not be withheld from you.”

What is a lobby boy? A lobby boy is completely invisible, yet always in sight. A lobby boy remembers what people hate. A lobby boy anticipates the client’s needs before the needs are needed. A lobby boy is, above all, discreet to a fault. Our guests know that their deepest secrets, some of which are frankly rather unseemly, will go with us to our graves. So keep your mouth shut, Zero.
If you haven’t watched them then I hope you do. If you did, I hope this list will inspire you to book your next destination.
Now you tell me: which are the movies which inspired you to travel?
***All quotes were taken from the respective movies***
